A Gel Cell battery is a rechargeable valve regulated lead-acid battery with a gelified electrolyte. The electrolyte is gelled by the addition of fumed silica to the acid. They are maintenance free and non-spillable. Gel-Cell and Sealed Lead Acid (SLA / AGM) batteries are often confused with one another. Although both batteries look very similar on the outside it is very important to replace your battery with the same type of internal chemistry. Each type of battery has a different charger requirement and using the wrong type of charger will significantly reduce the longevity of your battery.
